Whether you’re looking for some light entertainment or a break from studying for your giant philosophy test, television is often a much needed distraction. Here we chose the most interesting and promising shows on the air and delved into the best of fall TV. Both new and old are featured in our eclectic recommendations.

“The Apprentice 2: You’re Fired!”

Airs: 9 p.m. on Thursdays on NBC

Coming off such a successful season (it was the top new show at the beginning of last year), there is little doubt that “The Apprentice 2” will have trouble satisfying its millions of followers just as much as “The Apprentice” did. The season started off with a few new twists, as every new season of a reality show does. Like last season, there are two teams, one consisting of men and one of women, but this time one member from each team had to go to the opposite team and lead that week’s project. As of press time, the tally is 1-1, and it looks like there will be some fierce competition between the two in the weeks to come. Business majors take note and make sure to watch NBC at 9 p.m. on Thursday; it might help to be prepared in case Trump is your boss one day!

“Wife Swap”

Airs: Premieres Wednesday, September 29 at 10 p.m. on ABC

Originally from the UK, the idea has crossed the pond and made its way over to American programming. The concept seems simple: take two wives and have them trade places. Now factor in the typical reality show twist: the mothers who trade spots are polar opposites. One is an outdoorsy working mother who spends all her time devoted to raising her kids; the other is a ritzy wife of a multimillionaire who spends less than an hour a day with her kids, having three nannies and needing “me-time” which consists of visits to the gym and facials. Unlike the other reality shows, there are no material prizes: the reward is that by experiencing someone else’s family, you will come to appreciate your own more. Everyone now: awwwww!

“The Real World: Philadelphia”

Airs: Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on MTV

It is going to be hard to top “The Real World: San Diego”, but season 15 does have potential. Now that just about everyone has “taken a break” from their relationships back home, it will be interesting to see the cast members pair off, which some have already begun to do: MJ with Sarah and Landon with Shavonda. If we’ve learned anything from previous “Real World” seasons, it is that relationships always bring drama. This season also marks the first casting of two gay men in the same season, one of which is Karamo, a big shock to all. Season 15 is guaranteed to bring even more excitement, and who can resist the inevitable cat fights, beer tears and steamy confessions?

“Joey”

Airs: 8 p.m. on Thursdays on NBC

After the first two episodes, “Joey” has gotten great reviews, but some viewers might still be sore after “Friends'” ending. “Joey” still maintains his usual “charm” and acting “skills”, even though he has moved across the country to Hollywood to live with his sister Gina and his nephew Michael. He’s off to a slow start, having picked the one show out of his two offers that ended up being a flop, as his luck usually goes. He has formed a close relationship with his nephew, who looks like he will be Joey’s new best friend. Tune into NBC at “Friends'” old time slot, Thursdays at 8 p.m.

“The OC”

Premiere: Thursday, November 4 at 8 p.m. on FOX

Last season’s finale left us with one too many questions: Who is the father of Theresa’s baby? What does Seth think he is doing high-tailing it out of Newport in a little boat all by himself? When will Ryan coming back to Newport? Not to mention what Julie will do once she finds out that Caleb may soon be bankrupt? With all of these unanswered questions, the good news for those who were not been faithful watchers is that it is not too late to hop on the bandwagon. As patronizing as this show may seem, one episode and you will be hooked; this goes for men, too!
