Bring it on, Reagan: Orman talks politics

It's a Monday afternoon and politics professor John Orman is doing some investigating. Five months after ending his second campaign for public office, he's now digging up dirt on Ned Lamont. The millionaire businessman from Greenwich has assumed Orman's place as the liberal Democrat attempting to un-seat Senator Joseph Lieberman in this summer's primary.

Stepping up to the plate

In agreeing to be the alcohol permittee for this weekend's Spam Jam festivities, Bill McBain saved a treasured Fairfield tradition, and almost singlehandedly prevented a case of widespread student outrage against the administration. We are elated that McBain stepped up to the plate and scored one for the student body, when the junior and senior classes, and the senior class in particular, desperately needed to hold on to one of the last events they had left.

Feel good about yourself in 2006!

Being self-conscious is part of the human condition in the 21st century. We know the facts: the media is oversexed and stresses the importance of a thin, often gaunt physique and, not surprisingly, there are a high number of eating disorders on college campuses among both women and men.

Does candy equal cool?

When I was in fifth grade, there were the "cool" girls in the class. If you have a significant other, there's the pressure associated with purchasing the perfect gift, making plans, and battling the crowds (and usually increased entrée prices) at local restaurants.

Classmate: Rom lacked common concern for others

To the Editor: I am a graduate of Fairfield University, and first heard of the court case of William Rom v. Fairfield University on Monday, Feb. 6, and was outraged to hear that the University had been found guilty by a jury, and required to pay out sums amounting nearly $200K.

Mourning the loss of a peer

To the Editor: It was with profound sadness that last week the Fairfield University community lost one of their own, Alex Carrion of the class of 2008. Alex was known to all those who loved him as a warm and caring individual who exemplified all that Fairfield has to offer.

Raffle victory justified

To the Editor: I would like to voice my opinion of the editorial in last week's edition of The Mirror. The undignified insinuation that the Senate developed the parking pass concept with Public Safety to aid themselves as displayed in the cartoon "FUSA Senators Win FUSA Raffle" and editorial "Park Your Dignity Anywhere You Like" from the Feb.
