Lack of housing plans, a cause for concern

Fairfield students said they are disappointed by the lack of progress by administrators in combating one of the biggest problems on campus: overcrowded dorms and townhouses. Scholarships not in line with rising tuition

Tuition increases from year to year, yet one thing stays the same: the amount of money awarded for academic scholarships. Academic scholarships at Fairfield have remained monetarily stagnant since 2004, when each of the three awards was raised by approximately $3,000, with the premier award capping off at $15,000.

An assault on our humanity is how English professor Gita Rajan introduced the topic of Dr. Ruchira Gupta's Emmy Award-winning documentary, "The Selling of the Innocents," to a packed crowd at the Kelley Center Monday evening. Through her documentary, Gupta brought the world's attention to the crimes committed against girls in Central Asia.

The long road home

I have always really enjoyed the first night back at school - catching up with everyone and finding out how their summers went. But for me, and many other members of the class of 2008, this first night back was markedly different. Now, when I saw people for the first time, I had an entire semester to catch up on.

Diving Into Diversity

According to the Center for Disease Control, 1,788 Americans between the age of 20 and 24 will become infected with HIV this year, bringing the number of college-age Americans who have been infected with the disease since its onset to more than 34,000. In 1968, Pope Paul VI issued the encyclical letter Human Veritae, or Human Life, which reaffirmed the official Church teaching that contraception of any kind is gravely sinful.
