Risqué business: “Girl” borrows from an 80s classic

Sure, plagiarism may not be admirable, but in the case of the newest teen flick, "The Girl Next Door", it sure is smart. The plot borrows liberally from the Tom Cruise classic "Risky Business" (in my opinion perhaps the greatest flick about teenage rebellion ever), a smart move considering director Luke Greenfield's only previous flick is the Rob Schneider disaster "The Animal".

Raise a pint for Ray Kelly’s

The best part of Ray Kelly's is the bar's namesake, Mr. Raymond J. Kelly himself. Nothing is worse than a fake Irish bar. A lot of bars just try to excuse their terrible décor and filthy atmosphere by sticking some paper shamrocks on the walls and claim to be a pub.

At Fairfield, a holocaust survivor remembers

A remembrance service took place Monday night in the Egan Chapel to honor the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The event was sponsored by the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, Campus Ministry and Kadima. During Holocaust Memorial Week, we remember the lost men, women and children and acknowledge crimes against humanity are still committed today.

Jonnie feeling Proud after Battle win

In the third week of The Battle of the Band's competition Fairfield favorite JonnieProud arose victorious. But newcomers Brad Martocello '07 and Patrick Ginnetty '07 of the two man band "Arriving Sun" gave the predominantly sophomore band "JonnieProud" a run for their money last Thursday night at WVOF's Battle of the Bands at the Angus Steakhouse.

A major problem for students doing double duty

Double majors at Fairfield expect to be recognized for the increased workload, but may be surprised when their diploma only lists one degree. "I thought about majoring in English and business, but only for two different degrees," said Caitlin Ledwith '07.

Security’s got y’all in check

There is a singular question that every inebriated student or student on a Dunkin' Donuts run in the dead of winter asks themselves as they pass the security booth: what function does the booth actually serve? Well, I decided to become an unofficial security officer for the night and find out what security actually did in the wee hours of the morning, and because I came during the rotating of shifts, I was able to meet two security officers, both of whom wished to remain anonymous throughout this article.

Contract of Prof. Court not renewed

According to Visiting Professor Russell Court of the history department, Fairfield has decided not to renew his year-to-year contract without notifying him or providing any explanation. However, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Timothy Snyder said the university has not finalized all decisions concerning next year.
