For some seniors, graduation may be further away than expected

Second semester is almost half over, seniors are gearing up for their last weeks of care-free debauchery as college students. However, some students might just have one semester left. Last week, the university registrar sent letters to those students who are in danger of not completing the requirements for May graduation.

Withdrawl process complex; many students confused

Jessica Riley '06 had no problem withdrewing from two classes last year after an injury. However, when she wanted to withdraw from her challenging Italian class this year, she was denied. She was told she must continue with the class or accept an F. Riley didn't realize withdrawals late in a semester are not granted to students with unsatisfactory grades in their classes, unless they have an emergency situation.

Citizen Smith, a progressive Democratic talk show on WICC 600, a local AM radio station, spent the afternoon in Barone Campus Center right next to Jazzman's Caf. While at Fairfield, he talked with faculty, students, and the First Selectman of Fairfield, Ken Flatto.

While many Fairfield students excitedly await spring break trips to Cancun, Acapulco and Florida, their professors await exciting plans of their own. Sixty-eight members of the university's faculty, staff, security, campus operations, retirees and secretaries are going on a Royal Caribbean cruise to the South Caribbean.

For professors with young children, balancing responsibility is key

If you can barely handle your schoolwork, imagine juggling the responsibilities of parenthood as well. Fairfield professors with young children look to divide their time fairly between their work and children every day. "My life is a constant balancing act, trying to keep up with lectures, lab work and the demands of motherhood," said Professor Shannon Harding of the psychology department.

Ring in the news: cell phones in class are largely “annoying”

Nick Colello '05 let out a sigh of relief last Friday when he was "saved by the ring" of a cell phone after his professor asked a tricky question in class. Despite Colello's good fortune, many professors and students at Fairfield let out daily sighs of frustration from the growing cellular disruptions.
