The volume was high and the Levee was far from dry Thursday night as the New York band Black 47 played two hours of their energetic Celtic-infused music to a packed house. Black 47, no strangers to bar crowds, hit the stage at 9:30 p.m. to the screams and enthusiasm of students and non-students alike.

On Oct. 21, 2003, music lost an incredible voice. Elliott Smith, the 34-year-old singer/songwriter was pronounced dead at a Los Angeles hospital. Smith died from a knife wound in his chest that appeared to be self inflicted. At the press deadline, the police-performed autopsy was inconclusive and officials were awaiting a final toxicology report from the coroner.
