Concerning the historical religiosity associated with Halloween, it is fascinating how society, or should I say college students, have managed to put a sexual spin on a holiday which originated in Europe more than 2,000 years ago.

To clarify, when I say “sexual spin,” I am discussing the ample array of non-conforming costumes that can be seen throughout this institution. Despite the large selection of costumes available in stores or the endless creativity associated with homemade ones, a recurrent theme of sex appeal seems to circulate annually.

Females regard Halloween as one of the most invigorating days of the year. It is the only day where it is socially acceptable to look publicly promiscuous and as a result, females thoroughly take advantage of this opportunity. From sexy pirates to scandalous cheerleaders, it is safe to say that if you ask a female what she is wearing, the words bare midriff, thigh highs or spandex will be integrated into their responses.

Group costumes seem to be the most popular category of costumes seen at Fairfield University. Not only do these costumes make a statement, they make it exceptionally easy for you to find a missing person in your party.

Despite the creativity and humor which is commonly associated with group costumes, it is pragmatic to assume a provocative spin will once again be incorporated. As if promiscuous Snow White does not ruin your childhood memories, now you are surrounded by her and her seven hoes. (You wear it. I just write it).

Funny costumes are more commonly seen in the male population, and despite the sexuality associated with female costumes, men are equally at fault with the level of perversion they incorporate into theirs. From 6’4″ penises to life size condoms, keep in mind that this is Halloween. You are not teaching safe sex to sixteen-year-olds.

Lastly, I would like to discuss substandard costumes that are humorous to you but are underhandedly immoral or are just generally bad. From pregnant nuns to the guy who dresses up as himself, creativity may be the key to a successful Halloween costume.

But remember that there are underlying limits.
