Donning a green suit jacket and plenty of enthusiasm, host Rob Grazynski ’07 took the stage with the dance ensemble to host the HAM channel’s first Ultimate Stag Award Experience this past Sunday night. His dance moves were almost perfectly synchronized with the female dancers, as if he were actually part of the ensemble as they busted a move to Britney Spears’ “In the Zone”.

But the dance ensemble and Grazynski’s dancing wasn’t the only part of the award ceremony that had the audience cheering. Twenty-one awards were given to students and clubs for their achievements.

“I thought the awards night was fantastic! It was a great way to celebrate the happenings of the year and congratulate performers,” said Jaime Langinestra ’06.

In between the presentations of awards, Fairfield bands JonnieProud, White Noise and Essex entertained the audience with performances.

Stand-up comedian Chrissie Mayr ’05 had her listeners in hysterics when she provided her distressing experience of what it is like to have braces in college. According to Mayr, braces are the perfect form of birth control.

The dimmed Oak Room was equipped with HAM channel signs and decorative lights that lured in audience members and added to the presentation. A projector screen allowed all members of the audience to watch performers and the acceptance of awards.

An introduction film produced by the HAM channel was shown before each set of awards that included clips of students and events they had organized.

These miniature films helped make the ceremony seem like the Grammys or the Oscars, giving the audience a peek at each student’s achievements.

“It was very professional with the lighting on the walls and ceiling… and the video intros were really cool, too,” said Teig Lynster ’05, a band member of Essex. “They did an impressive job.”

Fairfield students also proved themselves impressive while they presented their peers with the awards. They gracefully offered jokes and words of support to the winners.

Upon accepting, many of the award-winning students gave mature speeches thanking their clubs, teams and friends. All students were respectfully dressed.

“I thought everything ran very smoothly, especially considering that this was the first time a HAM channel awards ceremony was done,” said presenter Bobby Morales ’06. “I thought everybody, including the presenters, DJ, host, camera and audio people… did a fantastic job.”

Chris Pastore ’06 of the band JonnieProud agreed and said he and his band enjoyed entertaining the audience.

“[The HAM channel] did a great job at putting it together. It went very well and we had a good time. Playing with White Noise and Essex was a lot of fun. We’re all friends and it’s always great getting together and rocking out,” said Pastore.
