• Senators Gomes, Kramer, Downing, Miller, Crowley, and Phelps were absent. Senator Nizer sent a proxy.

• FUSA members spent Sunday, Oct. 1 at a leadership council learning how to govern effectively. On that note, FUSA Vice President Megan McConville ’08 reminded the Senate, “we represent all of the student body – 73.5 students per senator – so we must utilize this time [Senate meetings] not to do what we want to do, but keep in mind the students we are representing.”

• Time was spent debating on what time the Oct. 15 Senate meeting should be held, as it is also the night of FUSA inductions. Sen. Steven Liguori ’09 moved to have the meeting changed to 7:30 p.m. Sen. Cota motioned to have the meeting directly following the inductions. Sen. John Lamendola ’09 argued, “the public would be confused about when exactly it would start.” It was decided to hold the meeting directly after inductions.

• McConville also brought up the possibility of a marble Stag statue on campus, per the request of Fr. von Arx. Sen. John Daly ’08 asked if the statue would be “life size or huge.” McConville replied that it would be life size, as “stags are pretty big.”

• Co-chair of the Senate Academic Committee Allie Dailey ’09 said the academics committee deals with “academic issues, anything to do with academics. It’s a lot of fun!” Goals for this semester include making registration for the Dolan School of Business more efficient and less stressful, setting up and promoting the peer advising fair, and making underclassmen (specifically freshmen) aware of the changes in the Connecticut alcohol law, effective as of Oct. 1. The Chair of the Senate Student Life Committee Nicky Enriquez ’07 said her committee deals with “everything academics doesn’t.” Some issues the committee will encounter this year include the Business School’s switch from WebCT to EIDOS networking services, student complaints that townhouses were dirty during move in, whether to keep the housing lottery as an annual system, and providing shelter for students who take the shuttle – especially students living in Dolan.

• Many issues were referred to either the Student Life or Academic committees for further discussion. The possibility of adding 15 minute student parking outside of the new Kelley Building and the fact that many vending machine Stagcard swipes are broken were both referred to Student Life; Making add/drop week one week longer was referred to Academics.

• The Senate voted to extend a formal invitation to Associate Justice of the Student Court Laura Marie Marciano ’08 to attend the next Senate meeting to explain the change in Student Court policy from a precedent-based system to an individual-based approach.

• Sen. Liguori motioned to cancel next week’s meeting on account of the holiday. Chair of the Senate Tim Rich ’08 agreed, “it’s an excellent motion.” The Senate unanimously agreed in favor of the motion.

• Sen. Lamendola formally thanked The Mirror for last week’s article, saying, “Any publicity is good publicity.”
