Because of his experience, his accomplishments, and the respect he has gained from the student body, the Mirror editorial board has decided to endorse Jeff Seiser ’10 to succeed Hutch Williams ’08 as FUSA president. Seiser has provided various examples of how he has brought ideas to the administration only to have them rejected. But many of these same ideas, such as the class of 2010 Half-way There Cruise, have actually occurred or are scheduled to occur, largely due to Seiser’s efforts. During the primary, Seiser gained support from members of every class, whereas most of Thibodeau’s votes came from his own class – and perhaps his own base. While Thibodeau has established a coalition of supporters in IRHA members and FUSA candidates, Seiser has found support from within FUSA, including senators and class council positions.

In a time when an organized FUSA is crucial to its success, Seiser can take the reigns of the organization from day one. His experience as a two-term class council president reminds us of when the current FUSA president took the over after the same stint. Seiser – a peer before a politician – will take student needs into consideration.

As FUSA finds itself in a transition period, our editorial board feels that Seiser can lead the student organization in a positive direction.
