This week in Senate:’ ‘

* FUSA’s newly formed Transportation Committee will meet with faculty this week to gain a more ‘campus-wide opinion’ about what needs to be done to improve the current system.’ The committee met for the first time Thursday to address transportation issues on and off-campus.
* FUSA President Jeff Seiser spoke with Academic Vice President Orin Grossman this week regarding the student who falsified his grades.’ According to Seiser, the administration is working to make Stagweb’s BANNER grading system more secure to prevent future breaches.
* Senate members are working with the Office of Student Diversity to help further advance the services it provides on campus. Seiser said events like Project Halo, a program spreading awareness about intolerance facing the gay community, are instrumental to the cause. ‘It’s part of our bigger diversity initiative,’ he said.’ ‘We want to provide useful feedback about how diversity is viewed on campus.’
* September’s ‘Campus Heroes’ will be announced this week.’ Sponsored by FUSA and the Division of Administrative ‘amp; Student Affairs, the program seeks to recognize students who make a positive impact on the campus community. Nominated by students, faculty and administrators, five recipients are named each month in categories that include integrity, courage and teamwork. Award winners will be announced on Fairfield Fridays. Each will be invited to a recognition dinner with university President Fr. Jeffrey P. von Arx.’
‘ ‘ ‘ * All 1,200 tickets for the Presidential Ball, which took place Friday night, were sold. Jordan Hummel, FUSA’s secretary of communications, described the event as a ‘great success.’

Upcoming class council events:’ ‘

* All four class councils are joining forces to organize a Breast Cancer run.’ The event will take place Sat. Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Sign-ups will begin shortly after Columbus Day weekend.
* The 2011 Class Council is organizing a host of festivities around the Oct. 8 men’s soccer game against Boston College. Free pizza and T-shirts at the Levee, along with a bonfire after the game, are among the planned events.
* The 2009 Class Council is organizing an Oktoberfest ‘Mug Night’ featuring reduced drink prices at the Levee.’ The event will be held Oct. 23 to celebrate seniors’ last year on campus.
