It is impossible not to notice the changes that have occurred on campus over the summer while students were on vacation. It is even more impossible not to notice the work that is still being done when the construction site is right outside your dorm room window. The Quad has become a mound of dirt and it causes a noticeable disturbance to students living in the surrounding buildings.’

Starting approximately at 6 a.m. every day, the trucks start arriving, rumbling past windows before starting the drilling and pounding a little later.’ Now this may be fine for early birds but especially for students who don’t have class until 11 or later, it can be hard after a late night.

And speaking of construction, for upperclassmen living in the Quad, there have been a number of parking spots taken away behind Jogues due to equipment and dirt piles taking up spaces.

Sitting in Loyola looking out the window, sophomore Vicki Longo commented that whatever they were doing was starting to look like Stonehenge.

‘I wish they would inform us more of what they’re doing,’ said Kathryn Kenne ’11.

Longo added, ‘They sent us an email but they didn’t tell us we’d be woken up at 6 a.m.’

In the e-mail that was sent to students over the summer, and according to the board near the traffic circle, it states that construction will be completed by Fall 2008. Is it just me or did anyone else assume that meant they’d be done by the time we got back to school?

Don’t get me wrong, I love the changes that have already occurred, as do most students.’ The cafeteria in Barone looks great and the food even seems to taste better in those inviting booths. And although the lack of trays is annoying, if it creates less food waste I say go for it.’

More paths have created easier routes to class without having to use the grass (although they could use a few more), and the cement circle in which everyone assumes a fountain is going in will be a nice addition to the scenery.

Sophmore Megan Kimmins said, ‘They’re definitely for the better.’ I’m excited to see how it’s going to turn out.’

But as summer turns into fall, the leaves begin to change colors, and tank tops and shorts give way to Fairfield sweatshirts, students are also hoping to see more of the changes on campus completed.’ And think of it this way, the sooner they’re done, the sooner we are no longer woken up at 6 a.m.
