Members of the Fairfield community had the rare privilege of gathering Tuesday night for a discussion led by two of the most important people in recent American history. Former covert CIA agent Valerie Plame and her husband Joe Wilson graced the crowd with their remarkable story of how politics played a role in their careers and relationship.

Whether students understood the importance of political involvement remains to be determined. The Fairfield administration should be commended for inviting two noteworthy figures involved in such a historical incident.

The University has already brought in renowned speakers, including Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof and author David McCullough. With such opportunities available for the University community, students should want to attend and learn from these events, and, in doing so, break the stereotypical mold of apathetic young adults.

Even though students were swamped with work the weekend before Thanksgiving break, they still managed to attend the sporting events over the weekend before going home for vacation.

Alumni Hall was packed for the women’s volleyball game and approximately 800 fans showed up at the Arena for men’s basketball.

The turnout at these games is proof that Fairfield students care about the newly developed rivalry with Sacred Heart and support the women’s volleyball team’s attempt to win the MAAC championship.

Bottom line, students care about seeing their fellow Stags win.

Other than the games at Alumni Hall, this is the first regular season game where more than just a few hundred students showed up. FUSA and the administration did a noteworthy job promoting the basketball games, but now the issue is figuring out how to bring more fans back to Harbor Yard.

Hopefully, by going to this one game, students will attend others. We applaud those loyal fans who made the effort to support the Stags. Way to be true to your school! Ra Ra Sis Boom Bah!
