Too often, FUSA is criticized by the student body and the university community at large for the quality of concert acts they bring, or fail to bring, to campus.

Last year, rumors circulated that FUSA might book Fairfield-favorite O.A.R. as either the fall or spring act. In each instance, the programming board was unable to close the deal.

This was crushing not only for Fairfield students who were finally excited about an on-campus event, but also for FUSA programmers who worked hard and were ultimately disappointed with the fruitlessness of their efforts.

This year, FUSA has done well in choosing a top-notch act and closing a deal with the popular jamband Guster for the fall concert.

While students often complain about a lack of school identity, the FUSA fall and spring concerts are among the best remaining Fairfield traditions.

They represent the rare occasion when the majority of the Fairfield community is simultaneously in one arena. They provide the student body with a reason to unite and celebrate. In fact, no one has seen the likes of such unity since the storied Clam Jam.

The FUSA activity fee paid by all students covers half the cost of the tickets for students. This means that every Fairfield student has the chance to buy a general admission ticket to see a top band for $15.

Such a low price is a steal and provides the opportunity to experience great music with good friends in an intimate environment.

After two years of comedic acts – Dane Cook and Dave Chapelle – featured for FUSA’s main fall event, the chance to hear an exciting and popular jam band is a welcome one.

We will be there when the doors open on Nov. 10 and hope for a good turnout. Rock on FUSA.
