To the Editor:

I am writing regarding the severe lack of parking space for the Quick Center. I worked four times last week at the parking lot of the Quick Center directing cars. There are two parking lots nearby the Quick Center for guests, performers, and. I, along with few more individuals direct the cars for the event of the day to the two parking lots and once full, we lead the cars to the parking lot of the Dolan School of Business. If that is full we have to direct the cars to the parking lot of Pepsi-Co Theater, which is, if you haven’t seen it, tiny.

So, what happens when even the last parking lot available for events is fully occupied? Then we are forced to tell the drivers of the incessant stream of cars to go over the hill by the chapel that leads to residential areas-the Quad parking area.

This is a huge inconvenience for students who already have enough of a headache with searching for parking spots.

Even with one of the better parking options (Pepsi-Co or the School of Business) complaints abound. Many patrons are elderly, and some handicapped.

If the show is on a weekday it gets only worse. Students that have to park their cars and go to their class at the School of Business can’t and vise versa for those that come for the show. Security officers jump in to manage the chaos, but without the fundamental space problem solved, their efforts are largely useless. Now what should we do? Build more parking lots . But since that is impossible to happen overnight, I hope the administration will recognize the seriousness of this problem.

Sincerely, David Rhree ’05
