The final four teams in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament headed to Cleveland earlier this week.

Fairfield Athletic Director Gene Doris as well as David and Dana Pump, the founders of ChampSearch, the firm hired to assist with Fairfield’s search for a new women’s basketball coach, made the trip with the four teams to try to find a new coach for Fairfield.

The Pump brothers have had influence in basketball before they started ChampSearch; they are the Directors of Basketball Development for Adidas,

While money and college athletics never mix well, Fairfield decided it was worth it to bring ChampSearch in to assist with their search.

After the success of first year men’s Head Coach Ed Cooley, who was hired with the help of ChampSearch, Fairfield decided to contract ChampSearch for the second straight year.

Doris said that ChampSearch will be “very integrally involved, as last year.”

The search is currently still in the preliminary stage, trying to identify potential candidates.

“I do not consider this stage interviewing. The only true interviews will be those with the search committee. My role with the search firm is identifying those who will be interviewed. That number will probably be three,” said Doris.

No matter who they uncover, Stags fans can only hope they will find the same success they did with Cooley.
