Women’s lacrosse off to fast start: With wins over Sacred Heart (13-12) and St. Mary’s (15-5) and a one-goal loss to No. 10 Yale, the Stags moved into 47th place in LaxPower’s national rankings. Freshman Kristen Coleman has won MAAC weekly awards for two weeks in a row. Last week, she was named Offensive Player of the Week and this week she earned defensive honors. On the season, she has a team-high 10 goals and second-best six turnovers forced.

Baseball struggles in Florida: The Stags’ pitching seemed to foreshadow their struggles and successes. Turning out a 2-4 record in Bradenton, Fla., Fairfield started the event with a win over Villanova, powered by a Rob Gariano ’10 gem, allowing two runs and striking out four in six innings. The Stags also defeated Western Michigan, which is 6-2 on the season, for their most impressive win. Sophomore Matt Tiagwad drove in the game winning-run to break a 5-5 tie.

Softball starts season with 3-9 record: Spending the break in Orlando and Tampa, the Stags picked up only three wins, over Detroit Mercy, Holy Cross and Sam Houston. Kristie Trifolis ’10 led the way during the trip with a .316 batting average and seven RBI.

Men’s golf finishes second tournament: The Fairfield Spring Invitational, hosted by the University but played in Myrtle Beach, S.C., took place on March 8. The Stags shot 322 to tie with Harvard and finished behind winner Lewis College, which shot 313. Cullen Onstott ’09 was the Stags’ top finisher at +6, 78 to tie for fifth place. R.J. Zielinski ’08 finished with a +7, 79 for a ninth-place finish.
