Although it seems that everyone from ages eight to 80 watches the Super Bowl, it is blatantly obvious that the event is geared toward a certain demographic of the population: men.

The Super Bowl is the quintessential opportunity for men to get together to celebrate two teams of gigantic dudes beating the crap out of each other in the name of sport, and there is no better way to observe this sacred day than by throwing a party.

The ideal Super Bowl party has the following elements; a bunch of guys, multiple televisions, a keg, and unlimited Buffalo wings. I love women, they are wonderful creatures. Nevertheless I have about as much need for them at a Super Bowl party as I do a gift certificate to a DKNY outlet.

Advertisers don’t market toward women on Super Bowl Sunday anyways. The makers of Midol and Tampax knew better than to pay the $2.3 million for a 30 second spot on CBS.

Chevy Trucks, Cadillac, Bud Light, Levitra and Cialis were some of the major players in advertising this year. There is a lot of humor in the underlying message sent to men this year that even if you have a nice car and a lot of beer, your wiener must be functional in order for you to be cool.

Most of the commercials this year sucked, but even worse was the goofy pre-game show. The loss of our country’s astronauts is a shame, and I do not intend to dismiss it as a trivial event. Yet I do feel that it is unnecessary to use the Super Bowl as a platform for honoring NASA’s next crop of astronauts.

Equally as bad as the pre-game show this year was the half-time show. It is extremely boring to watch TRL’s finest perform last years hits. Janet Jackson showed us her boob. Big deal. I can get a better rise out of watching scrambled porn.

The one thing that didn’t disappoint this year was the game itself. Congratulations to the Patriots and Panthers, they had the entire viewing audience on the edge of their seats for the duration of the fourth quarter.

That’s the way it should be.

Hopefully all future Super Bowls will be that exciting so the focus stays on the game and away from stupid celebrities and their attempts to boost their careers.
