DEEP FRYED: V-Day sucks

Ahh, Valentine's Day. Now little more than a mile marker on the highway of our culture's deteriorating self-indulgence, it's a holiday that I could do without, to say the least. I've been lucky enough so far in my life not to be involved in a real "relationship" on Valentine's Day, and this of course has saved me tons of money and emotional investment I would have spent on meaningless dinners in fancy restaurants and expensive gifts devoid of any true sentiment or feeling.

Pregnant pause: Fairfield’s policy on expecting students

Could you be pregnant? Female students who frequent the Health Center at Fairfield University routinely hear this question from doctors and nurses when students seek medical attention. But what if the answer is yes? What if the student wants to keep going to school while pregnant? According to Anne Cole, director of the Fairfield University department of health services, if you become pregnant, you can stay in the residence halls until delivery and can return afterwards only without the baby.

What connection does the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice-President of NBC Television Stations have to Fairfield University? She's an alumna. Patricia E. Hutton, '86, spoke on Tuesday at the Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony. Beta Gamma Sigma is the Business Honor Society for all accredited business schools over the United States.

SARS forces five students home

Five Fairfield students studying in China had their semesters cut short by increasing concern over an ailment blamed for hundreds of deaths. The ailment, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), has struck China with the most ferocity. The Fairfield students were sent home three weeks before the end of the semester when the program they were enrolled with terminated the semester, according to Susan Fitzgerald, director of the study abroad program.

I HATE EVERYTHING!: I want my lozenges!

I would be famous. Newspapers would write about how I had brought SARS to Connecticut, the CDC would grill everyone I had made contact with in the last weeks, and suddenly everyone would refer to me as Patient Zero. Of course, I didn't really have SARS, or anything remotely that serious, but I still felt like garbage.
