Editorial: Cheers to Luda, Boos to OCB

Ludacris may be adding 2-0-3 to his list of favorite area codes this year. Students said they are more than content that the famed hip hop artist and actor will be this year's FUSA concert. FUSA's choice reflects a campus-wide desire to take a new direction in concert choices; recent Fairfield concerts have included the likes of O.A.R., Dashboard Confessional and Guster, which can hardly be considered eclectic selections.

Quirky Fairfield poet Bridgford comes back to perform as touring poet for Connecticut Poetry Circuit

People often assume that poets write about esoteric, abstract subjects. However, Kim Bridgford beat the stereotype with her poems that discuss the woman with the longest fingernails and the chicken who survived 18 months without a head. Bridgford, an English professor at Fairfield University who has been named the 2007 touring poet for the Connecticut Poetry Circuit, held a poetry reading on Monday at Fairfield University.

In the passageway of a Metro-North train headed for Grand Central Station, Jocelyn Boryczka, politics professor and director of peace and justice studies, stood in front of 56 members of the University community. "You have the right to free speech in the United States of America," she said.

Students do a little extra to get a little extra

Who are those students who constantly take the seats in the last few rows at Quick Center and Oak Room lectures? They are students who either have lecture requirements or extra credit options offered from professors. But besides boosting the final class grade, there is much to be gained from attending these lectures.

O’Shea’s Elmo-stripper gets laughs

Comedian Eric O'Shea won the hearts of both parents and students Saturday night. The Quick Center was packed with families ready to be entertained by Fairfield Prep's own comedic prodigy. Early on, O'Shea said that he was going to clean up his act for that night's show, which calmed some but annoyed others.

Thank you, Gracias, Grazie: Business school holds international etiquette lesson

On Wednesday, Oct. 17., students were trained to be globally savvy by Anne Marie Sabath, president and founder of At Ease Inc., a New York City- and Cincinnati-based business protocol and social skills training firm. The seminar program teaches students who plan on traveling how to introduce themselves, dress appropriately and have good table manners in foreign countries.

Politics professor Jocelyn Boryczka plans war protest to promote activism

In an act of true dedication, Jocelyn Boryczka, politics professor and the new director of the peace and justice studies program, is organizing a trip to a war protest in New York City on Oct. 27. Boryczka has wanted to share her strong sense of political activisim and give the opportunity to students outside her classroom since she came to Fairfield in 2002.
