Comedian Eric O’Shea won the hearts of both parents and students Saturday night. The Quick Center was packed with families ready to be entertained by Fairfield Prep’s own comedic prodigy.

Early on, O’Shea said that he was going to clean up his act for that night’s show, which calmed some but annoyed others.

Kenneth Vigilo ’11 said, “He was a really funny guy, but he needs to be a lot dirtier.”

Audience members could tell O’Shea had a blast making fun of the student/parent relationships that evolve when kids go away to school.

As he put it, mothers feel blessed while fathers walk around looking for reconciliation for the large funds they put into their children’s education.

O’Shea continued to tease the fathers, saying that they would much rather be watching the Red Sox game.

“I can’t believe I’m missing the game for this,” O’Shea said of the fathers in the audience.

During the course of the night, O’Shea spoke of his love for the Guinness Book of World Records, his annoyance with people who pronounce Italian “I-talian,” his humble beginnings as a Fairfield Prep student and his grievances with spell-check.

Another funny bit by O’Shea was to suggest getting rid of strange commercial “jingles” and change them to more practical songs.

Examples included “You Raise Me Up,” a popular Josh Groban song for Viagra commercials, and “I’m a bitch” by Meredith Brooks for PMS.

One of O’Shea’s talents is his impressions. He imitated the casts of Seinfeld, Family Guy and Elmo.

At one point, he made Elmo a stripper by making his hand (Elmo) dance around the microphone stand (the stripper pole).

“I especially liked the Elmo bit he ended with,” Brenton Roman ’10 said.

The show was a success, leaving many students wanting more.

Thomas Pojero ’11 said, “I would definitely go see him again if he came back to perform.”
