Dear President Elect Kevin Neubauer,

We at The Mirror have come to a conclusion: if you get two great concerts, one in the fall and one in the spring, you will be the best FUSA President to ever reign at Fairfield University.

This weekend, we are all hoping that Howie Day puts on a great show. However, many on campus have never heard of him and many are disappointed that FUSA has failed once again to land a more prominent artist.

Just up the road, Sacred Heart has comedian Dave Chappelle. Chappelle has a popular show on Comedy Central and a number of Fairfield students are not only going, but they are also very excited about it. Such a sense of excitement about Howie Day does not exist.

As the University struggles to make ends meet financially they are at the same time struggling to market Fairfield to potential students in an effort to move to a more elite status. If an admissions tour impresses a student, concerts and events should do the same.

By bringing a relatively unheard of artist here FUSA is risking another Rusted Root experience, when the feeling among the vast majority of students was that the concert definitely lacked something.

It may be that FUSA is just not competent. When the student association fails to impress the majority of its target audience again and again, something is very wrong.

From botched elections, a shaky constitution, and no-name acts for “big” events, FUSA leaves us shaking our heads time after time.

So, with Howie Day comes yet another dissapointment for many Fairfield students at the hands of FUSA. Please Kevin, don’t make the same mistakes.

Sincerely, The Mirror
