To the Editor:

As a graduate of the class of 2001 I take some offense to Professor Abbott’s remarks toward grade inflation.

Yes, I will admit that senior year I did not study every waking hour of the day and that my entire life did not revolve around school but I did study when I needed to and am proud to say that I graduated with honors.

Professor Abbott’s comments seem to diminish the hard work I and other students put into their academics.

I do not feel as though I only got good grades because of grade inflation. I believe the work I put into my studies earned me my grades and that the professors who gave me them did so because of such hard work.

It should also be noted, many times-especially second semester senior year-seniors take electives in which they do not have to study as much as a major/minor class because they are extremely occupied with finding a job/career.

Sincerely,

Matt DeFranco Class of 2001
