You’ve probably heard her around campus screaming, “There he is! Man of the hour!”

Mary Beth Vingelen ’06 likes to think of herself as “a crazy,” being very social and meeting as many people as possible.

Vingelen, hailing from Portland, Ore., is a double major in Biology and Music with a minor in Spanish, in hopes of being a pediatrician. Her favorite class at Fairfield has been Spanish Conversation with Professor Knight.

She is involved in Fairfield’s Best Buddies program, where she is the College Buddy Director. Having this title, Vingelen organizes the club’s outings and parties.

“A big part of why I came here was because of the service opportunities and the emphasis on social justice that is preached through the Campus Ministry,” she said.

Last summer, she attended a Best Buddies International conference in Indiana while also interning in the Process Development Laboratory at Imclone Systems Inc. in Somerville, N.J.

Vingelen likes to attend Monday night mass in the Egan Chapel. “I like the candle lit mass a lot. It’s really relaxing,” she said.

While at Fairfield, Vingelen works at Head Start in Bridgeport twice a week, teaching music to children ages three and four. This summer, she will teach piano lessons to cancer patients and their families at the Dana Farber Cancer Institution in Boston.

Her hobbies include learning how to play guitar and listening to music. She likes singer/songwriter music like Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and Coldplay. Vingelen is single and ready to mingle.
