Yes, as difficult as it is to believe, I am a 20-year-old senior. I will not turn 21 until the very last month of the year, either. Someone, please feel my pain.

I know for a fact that there are several of us out there. I will not mention any names though.

That having been said, I was shocked to find out that I would not be able to attend Senior Mug Night at the Levee on Tuesday, Sept. 27, because I am under the legal age of 21.

I could not believe the hassle that I had to go through to get into this event to cover it for The Mirror.

When I originally called the Levee, I made it perfectly clear that I would not be drinking and, as part of The Mirror staff, I was interested in covering the event for a story.

I was appalled when I was told that I would not be allowed into the Levee that night. I repeated myself, stressing the fact, rather emphatically, that I would not be partaking in the evening’s festivities. They, once again, stated that I was not welcome at the Levee that night regardless of the fact that I would not be drinking.

In my opinion, the Levee is the last place that should be turning down campus press coverage.

I was most bothered by the fact that on any other night, the Levee is open to all ages.

Students are simply carded if they request any alcoholic beverages. Why, then, deliberately exclude some seniors from an event planned specifically for their enjoyment?

This brings me back to last year’s townhouse block parties. Though all students were allowed to attend the event, only students over the age of 21 received bracelets and were allowed to drink. Keep in mind that this event was not only for seniors, but for juniors as well.

I think that all event coordinators should stop and think of us young people.

Don’t hate on us because our parents put us in kindergarten when we were four. Or, because some of us, unfortunately myself not included, were intelligent enough to skip a grade or two at one point.

I am a senior and I should be able to attend all senior events regardless of my age.
