Coconuts has leapt from last place last year, to first place this year. Their store is located fairly close to campus, their new release prices have gotten more aggresive, and they have used CDs which can allow students to get even more bang for their buck. They also have a small selection of magazines, movies and other entertainment-related accessories, which means it can become one-stop shopping if you’re looking for other things at once. Coconuts has been under-appreciated, and it’s time they got their due.
The Worst: FYE
It’s a bit surprising that FYE got worst, according to student vote. Their store is the largest music store in the area; they’ve got really cool listening stations; and they’re located in the mall, which is a great location when you’re also doing clothes shopping. But there’s something to be said for their parent company, Trans World, which also owns Coconuts. You see, pricing, new release selection, and so forth are practically identical. You voted one of their stores best and one worst. Their branding of different locations have obviously paid off, and most students just don’t realize it. Think about that the next time you’re shopping at either store.
