Best? Dunkin’ Donuts: 593 Post Road, Fairfield • 255-3366

An absolute no-brainer. This coffee is so good it would be the best in town even if it wasn’t open 24 hours and didn’t have the best assortment of doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches. It has a large and ever-growing list of flavors in traditional coffee but also has everything from lattes to white hot chocolate. The coffee has more caffeine than the stuff at Starbucks or Jazzman’s, which is why Dunkin’ is the perfect destination for students trying to wake up in the morning or get through an all-nighter. It’s as convenient and refreshing in the summer as it is in the winter, thanks to an impressive array of iced coffees and coolatas. Put all that together and you get Dunkin’ Donuts: one of the fastest growing chains in the country.

Worst? Starbucks: 2171 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield • 362-0347

What’s the worst thing about Starbucks? The outrageously high prices, the fact that the coffee tastes awful or that unlike Dunkin’ Donuts, it isn’t open around the clock? Charging $4 for a cup of terrible, horrible, no good, very bad coffee that is both smaller and has less caffeine than the coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts is unacceptable. Starbucks should be ashamed of itself for doing so. The only reason their lattes and espresso drinks taste good is because of the mix of steamed milk, pounds of sugar and artificially flavored syrups employees are trained to dump in their specialty coffees. The sugary composition of each drink is enough to make any diabetic have a siezure.
