The Men’s Lacrosse team lost its season-finale against ECAC foe St. John’s, 10-7, failing to capitalize on a stirring fourth quarter rally and momentum following a late-season road win over UMass only a few days before.

The defeat is the Stags’ ninth loss in ten games on the season.

Despite the disappointing outcome, the Stags showed signs of life in the second half of the game.

The Red Storm surged at the outset of the game, scoring seven consecutive goals and opening an 8-1 lead at halftime.

A youthful Stags roster, though, showed resiliency and managed to climb back into contention due to five consecutive third quarter goals, highlighted by a goal by senior defenseman Chris Atwell ’08.

Freshman Ryan Mulford ’11 tallied a goal, his second of the afternoon, with 1:36 remaining in regulation, which pulled Fairfield within three goals, but St. John’s was able to gain possession on the ensuing face-off and end Fairfield’s late rally.

Offensively, midfielder Chris Ajemian ’09 and attackman Travis Nelson ’08, who both finished the game with three goals, led the Stags’ attack.

Fairfield ends the season with a 4-9 overall record, along with a 2-5 mark in ECAC conference play.
