Men’s and Women’s Cross Country:

More props: For two consecutive weeks, Lauren Tehan ’12 claimed MAAC Runner of the Week honors. This week, its two fellow teammates that continue the cross country team’s strong start.
‘ ‘ ‘ Freshmen Kristen Golen was named this week’s MAAC Runner of the Week after her effort in the Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational held at Fairfield last weekend. Golen finished ninth overall in a field of 123 competitors.
‘ ‘ ‘ As for the men’s team, freshman Vin Ferrer also staked claim to the conference’s top weekly honor. Ferrer finished fourteenth-place in the Invitational.

Men’s Tennis:

Ferrante reaches quarterfinals: Sophomore Rob Ferrante reached the quarterfinals of the Flight A division at the University of Connecticut Invitational tournament. Ferrante defeted UConn’s Joe Goldstein, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinal round.
‘ ‘ ‘ Ferrante, though, ultimately fell to Marist’s Loic Sessgesimi, 6-1.
‘ ‘ ‘ Aside from Ferrante, freshman Joe Michalisin also competed in and won a match in Flight A of the tournament. Ferrante defeated Tim Sichler of Boston University in the opening round.

Women’s Swimming:

Thinking (swim) caps: Swimming is as cerebral a sport as any, and the women’s swimming team proved that last year in the lanes and in class.
‘ ‘ ‘ The team had a 3.43 GPA, the highest cumulative average of any of Fairfield’s 20 varsity sports. In the spring semester, 19 of the team’s 21 swimmers finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 12 were named to Fairfield’s esteemed Dean’s List. As for conference honors, seven of the team’s members were named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll for the 2008-08 academic year and season.
‘ ‘ ‘ Women’s and Men’s Swimming start their season on Oct. 11 against Holy Cross.

Male Stag-lete of the Week:
ATHLETE: Vin Ferrer ’12
SPORT: Cross Country
ACHIEVEMENT: Ferrer’s strong effort in this weekend’s Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational held on campus was more than just a breakout race; it was a personal breakthrough.’ Ferrer’s fourteenth place finish and 26:21 time in the 6K garnered him MAAC Runner of the Week honors. Ferrer was the Stags’ top finisher for the third consecutive week, and his strong time boosted the Stags to a fifth’ place finish. The Stags’ next race comes October 11 at the New England Championships in Boston, Mass.

Female Stag-lete of the Week:
ATHLETE: Kelly Boudreau ’12
SPORT: Women’s Soccer
ACHIEVEMENT: Kelly Boudreau’s collegiate career has already been marked with three shut-outs, a tie against UConn, and seven wins in just ten games.’ Now, Boudreau has MAAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week to add to her resume. The award comes six days after Boudreau’s four-save effort against Harvard, a game that ended in a scoreless tie. On the season, the freshman is averaging 5.5 saves per game.
