Footsteps down overgrown paths crunching like crumpled paper. My hands ran across aging bark, microscopic splinters nestling under calloused skin. Cold, damp air pressed against a body wracked with pain and exhaustion. I couldn’t stop. Morning was leaking through violet clouds, bathing tired branches in velvet light. I’m lost, home now much too far away.
