Preseason basketball hype heats up:

MAAC coaches pick women second New women's basketball Head Coach Joe Frager, his assistants and his two top players, Sabra Wrice '08 and Baendu Lowenthal '09, sat in the theater at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday afternoon, waiting in anticipation to see where they would fall in the preseason coaches poll. Head Coach Ed Cooley is not sure what to make of his 2007-2008 team only 11 practices into the season.

Looking ahead: Volleyball wins 10th straight MAAC match

The Stags continue their dominance in the MAAC as they return from a road trip that left upstate New York wondering what hit them. The Stags took a trip up to beat Niagara on Saturday and then demolish Canisius for yet another shutout Sunday. The Stags have been dominating the MAAC since Sept. 16 and have yet to lose a game to a MAAC opponent since then.

Beyond the pitch

Ahna Johnson '09 is putting the student back into student-athlete. While many college athletes have received criticism recently for being remiss in their studies, Johnson is hard at work on the field and in the classroom. She is a double-major in both physics and business, planning to work on alternative energy projects after graduation.

Crowd-winning Calisus comes to FU

If you think getting a hold of major bands including Fall Out Boy is difficult, try getting Washington, D.C., alternative rock band Calisus. They may not be big yet, but they sure are busy. Between touring, recordings and meetings in Los Angeles, Patrick Koch, the group's lead guitar player and singer, got a chance to talk to The Mirror about their upcoming Boys ' Girls Club benefit show, which will take place this Friday in the Oak Room.

O’Shea’s Elmo-stripper gets laughs

Comedian Eric O'Shea won the hearts of both parents and students Saturday night. The Quick Center was packed with families ready to be entertained by Fairfield Prep's own comedic prodigy. Early on, O'Shea said that he was going to clean up his act for that night's show, which calmed some but annoyed others.

Shake, bake, then battle

The sweat was dripping and the amps were turned up to 11 as five bands competed at The Levee for the third annual Battle of the Bands. The FUSA-sponsored event is notorious for drawing crowds through prizes rather than music. The Logan Groovers, Jaime Flores, Shake N' Bake, Delta 9 and the Flow, and A Pair of Kings rocked the dull crowd as hard as they could Friday night, eventually leading up to the announcement of the grand prize winners.

These are just a few things that describe the "Nightmare Before Christmas" 3D, a re-release of Tim Burton's early 1990s box office hit. Seen the original so many times that you can pretty much recite every line from memory? Don't worry, there is still so much to experience with the re-release.

Horatio Sanz is a comedian who is famous for his work on "Saturday Night Live." This past summer, he had a small role in "Superbad." Now, he is doing a show this Wednesday night at Toad's Place. Sanz was able to give The Mirror an interview.
