The men's soccer team suffered through a third-straight disappointing weekend by splitting the two MAAC games it played. Head Coach Carl Rees is not known to make excuses for his team's struggles, but with the amount of injuries this season, he has every right to.

Cavallaro, Maron sweep weekly MAAC awards

Women's soccer swept the MAAC awards this week, as freshman Nicole Cavallaro was named Offensive Player of the Week, while senior goalie Brett Maron was named the Defensive Player of the Week as the team moved into a first-place tie with Marist. Cavallaro set the single-season record for assists with her 12th assist of the year against Manhattan.

Fairfield students party hard as Sox sweep World Series

Screams of joy could be heard around campus as Red Sox fans ran out of dorms and townhouses Sunday night to celebrate the team's second World Series victory in four years. A group of fans paraded through campus carrying brooms and chanting "Let's Go Red Sox" and "Yankees Suck," as others gathered in the Quad, all while Public Safety told them to go back inside and go to bed.

Lapping the competition

Junior Drew Kingman is not the typical athlete. In one semester, he set 10 school records and is one of the best swimmers in Fairfield's history. However, a humble Kingman, a standout on the Fairfield men's swimming team, described a typical day, with an exceedingly casual tone.

Going for the championship: Volleyball wins 12th straight MAAC match

The women's volleyball team staggered out of the gate to begin the MAAC season with a loss to Siena in the Saints' hometown of Albany. But since that game, the volleyball team has not lost a single match. The Stags took revenge on the Saints with a victory at Alumni Hall on Saturday to move into a first place tie in the conference.

A blessing in disguise

Broken glass and lumber litter the streets while the smell of fish lingers in the air. Barbed wire fences and old, possibly abandoned houses line the street as garbage trucks move in and out of two nearby waste management buildings. In this same neighborhood, a pristine white sign placed on a warehouse's red brick wall reads, "Fairfield University Stags BOAT HOUSE."

Basketball and the Beast

WVOF, Fairfield University's radio station, is putting students on the air and on the road this winter, covering Fairfield men's and women's basketball games live for the 2007-2008 season. "WVOF is trying to be everywhere," said Dan Stanczyk '08, director of the sports broadcasting program at the station.

Local legend: The voice of Fairfield basketball

On afternoons in the New York area, Bob Heussler's voice can be heard giving updates on the Mike and the Mad Dog Show on WFAN, one of the most well-known sports talk shows in the country. For 19 years Heussler has also been the voice of Fairfield men's basketball, providing a constant identity for the team.

Freshmen frenzy: Cooley’s recruits look to make immediate impact

Many look back on the 2006-2007 men's basketball season and see only the win and loss columns. What is widely ignored is the work Head Coach Ed Cooley put into secure one of the strongest incoming freshman classes in the MAAC. Cooley focused on recruiting players who fit his philosophy and system, which focuses on a strong inside presence with a lot of big bodies.

Freshmen frenzy

New Head Coach Joe Frager is nationally known as a good recruiter. After last season's D-II National Championship at Southern Connecticut State, Frager was not only named D-II Coach of the Year, but was also voted by his fellow coaches as the top recruiter in the country.
