Women’s soccer swept the MAAC awards this week, as freshman Nicole Cavallaro was named Offensive Player of the Week, while senior goalie Brett Maron was named the Defensive Player of the Week as the team moved into a first-place tie with Marist.

Cavallaro set the single-season record for assists with her 12th assist of the year against Manhattan. She is now only one assist shy of placing in the top-10 career list, despite not yet playing a full season. She also ranks fourth nationally in assists per game with 12 in 18 games.

Maron, who now has 24 career shutouts, is only .5 shutouts away from tying the all-time record for the program and ranks 38th in the nation in save percentage at .852.

They both led the Stags to a 4-1 non-coference win over Holy Cross with Cavallaro recording her first collegiate hat trick and Maron saving six shots.

Maron then blanked conference foe Manhattan 1-0 for her seventh shutout of the season. Cavallaro assisted on the lone goal in the game, scored by senior Janna Breitenwischer.

The Stags then won Tuesday against St. Peter’s 5-2, as Casey Frobey ’10 scored two goals, Jill Eichler ’09 scored her first career goal and Cavallaro added another, her seventh on the year.

Cavallaro leads the team with 26 points with Frobey right behind her with 22.

Fairfield is now 10-6-2 on the season and 5-1-1 in the MAAC with a shot at the MAAC Regular Season Championship.

Fairfield returns to action Friday against third-place Loyola and ends the season Sunday against Rider, both at Lessing Field.
