The flyers and posters had been up for weeks, and on the chosen day, the campus center was buzzing with busy bees getting ready for the big show. On Nov. 2, a rising band from San Diego, Called Counterfit, came to Fairfield to rock the socks off this sleepy town. Bands such as Hidden in Plainview and Fairweather also took the stage, and the night was definitely a success.

As printed in previous issues of The Mirror, Nick Mercadante, ’04 and Dave Grazynski, ’04, along with WVOF, have been in charge of the majority of the concerts that have come to Fairfield this year. The concert was well organized, started on time and everyone who was there had a great time- which was clear because almost everyone was smiling.

Hidden in Plainview was the first to take the stage, and concert-goers continued to trickle in throughout their performance. By the time Counterfit played their first note, about 350 to 400 people had come to this indie-rock concert. “I thought that it was awesome,” said Cathy Auriana, ’04. “All the bands were great but Counterfit was definitely my favorite!” Dee Burdick, ’04, agreed. “The concert was really great; in particular I enjoyed Counterfit because they had the most passion.”

Dan Reed, one of the guitarists from Counterfit, seemed quite satisfied. “It was a great show,” he said, “It’s good to see a college backing musical expansion. The other bands, Hidden in Plainview and Fairweather, were fantastic, and we look forward to coming back!” Since Counterfit came from California, that says a lot for Fairfield.

Fairweather played last and the concert ended before midnight. “It was good,” said WVOF Station Manager, Jeff Stone, ’03. “We had a good turnout and everyone had a good time. We’re looking forward to every Friday for the rest of the month, and I would like to thank everyone who helped out.”

Compared to the first concert in the WVOF Hostile Takeover Concert Series (Sept. 20 at the Levee), this concert was a huge success, with about twice the attendance of that first night. The next concert is scheduled for Nov. 8 at the Levee. Hopefully the success of these events will continue to grow.
