I’ve heard old dudes say that college is the best time of our lives. Personally, I find this depressing but it is probably true.

Old dudes also have a difficult time understanding us. So, our two groups have been opposed since the beginning of time, and we have dubbed our foe “The Man” for his failure to understand the appeal of a 7-11 or the Athena Diner at 3:30 a.m.

“The Man” struck again two years ago when the town of Fairfield and some judge in Bridgeport made it illegal for more than 250 students to hang out at The Point.

I guess that’s fair and constitutional and all, because old people are always right and we kids are all just a bunch of idiots anyway. But, if old people are always right then they must also be right when they say that these are the best years of our life.

Because I am an RA, my Sunday will be spent in a dark room weeping, however, I do have some advice for my graduating Senior friends.

It stands to reason that if this is the best time of your life and this Sunday is one of the last days at this haven of awesomeness, then Seniors have an obligation to have a righteous (and safe … the RA in me cannot be stopped) weekend.

Sure, it would be nice and maybe even beneficial or admirable to spend Sunday in the library studying for those finals, but that’s exactly the reason why God and the Registrar’s Office gave us “Reading Days.”

Not convinced? Then let’s do some math. Say you study all day Sunday and raise your grade on that final in Rainforest Ecosystems by a whole grade. At best, that will move your class grade up by a few points. Say you get a B+ instead of a B for all that hard work.

That’s a difference of .33 divided over 40 classes from your four years. That’s right, you have just thrown a Sunday with your friends down the drain for less than one-hundredth of a point. There’s a smart-sounding term for that number – it’s negligable. It won’t matter on your GPA so what’s the point?

This gets us to an important motto in life. Are you going to regret this 20 years from now?

You’ve got a precious few days left of college, Seniors. It’s time to make them count!
