Bring out the UV protection and beach towels; Spring Break is here.

Where are you going?

While some Fairfield students are heading all over the globe, others will take the time to relax, soak up some sun and enjoy paradise.

“I’m going on a cruise to the eastern Caribbean,” said Julie Briggs ’07. “I went on a similar cruise last year and had the time of my life. The total cost is around $1,200 for the week, but that’s all inclusive.”

Several students, like Stephanie Ortiz ’10, plan to stay in the U.S. while enjoying the sun.

“I’m going to Florida with my roommate Marisa,” Ortiz said. “We will probably spend half the time in Ft. Myers with my family and the second half in Miami. Maybe I’ll get a tattoo at Miami Ink, who knows?”

But not all students are going to hot spots for their vacation. Colin Sheckart ’09 is hitting the slopes in Colorado.

“My friend Alex and I got our plane tickets through JetBlue,” said Sheckart. “We are going to be staying in Winter Park and skiing all of break.”

Briana Landry ’08 is taking advantage of her study abroad experience and travelling around Europe.

“I’m probably meeting my friend in Paris for the beginning and then going to see Feria in Sevilla, Spain,” said Landry. “But I get a head start since I’m already in Europe and the whole point of being here is to travel.”

Carla Wieger ’07 will also be traveling in Europe.

“I will be going to Florence, Italy with my mother,” said Wieger. “I’m technically going to look for jobs, since my dream in life is to live in Italy. But while I’m there, who says a return to the Uffizi or a dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant isn’t in order?”

Not all students are able to vacation far from Fairfield. Some are staying on the East Coast.

“I can’t afford to go on a week-long vacation, but I may take a trip up to Maine to see my aunt and go skiing at Sugar Loaf,” said Wendy Scola ’07.

In an effort to help with student budgets, travel agencies are offering specials to sunny locations such as Acapulco, the Bahamas and even MTV’s 2007 hot spot- Cancun.

But for a large number of students, large-scale vacations are just too much for spring break. Staying at home will enable them time to relax and catch up on the sleep they have been missing all semester.

“I don’t think I am going to do anything over spring break besides have some good old-fashioned home cooking,” said Rob Scansaroli ’09. “I can’t wait to get home and have Mom’s spaghetti.”

Whether you’re going into the cold or enjoying on a beach, make sure to bring your passports if you’re leaving the country. As of January 23, 2007, in order to fly back into the United States from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean you will need your passport.
