The Fairfield men’s lacrosse team has high hopes for this season. The Stags success this week has made a statement to the college lacrosse world, they are a force to be reckoned with this season.

Fairfeld who was ranked 20th in the country this week, moved to 4-0 on the season by defeating the 11th ranked Bucknell Bison, 13-7 in Fairfield on Monday. Senior Mike Bocklet led the way for Fairfield with six goals, giving him a team-high 11 goals on the season.

Junior Travis Nelson added three goals, while fellow junior Dan Boudreau had two. Senior Greg Downing and junior Brandon Finnerty had the other Stags goals. Boudreau now has 10 goals on the season.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Kruger made nine saves on 25 Bison shots.

Fairfield outshot Bucknell 36-25.

Bocklet scored the Stags first goal with 13:45 left in the first quarter and Bucknell tied the game three minutes later on a goal by Joe Mele, who led his team with four goals.

The Stags finished the quarter with the lead, as Downing scored with 40 seconds left.

Finnerty scored his goal one minute into the second to put Fairfield up by two goals, 3-1.

The Stags entered the half with a 5-2 lead, with goals scored by Nelson and Bocklet.

The Bison charged back in the third quarter, scoring four goals to tie the game at 5-5. But Bocklet broke the tie with five minutes left in the half with his third goal of the game.

Fairfield and Bucknell traded goals, before the Stags took a 8-6 lead. The Stags allowed just one more goal, while scoring five goals to win 13-7. Bocklet had three of the final goals.

The Stags now head into their third straight home game, against Harvard on Saturday Mar. 17 at 2 P.M.
