The Kicknote.com Battle of the Boroughs is a search for New York City’s most talented independent artists, and will be the world’s first Battle of the Bands that fans can also watch live online, for free, and vote for their favorite acts through the site. The multi-round Battle will take place Summer 2008 in New York City, and date/location specifics will be announced on Kicknote.com as the event draws nearer.

Kicknote.com will broadcast a high-quality streaming video feed of the whole competition online in conjunction with strategic partner Justin.tv; the event will air on both sites, but viewers can only vote from the Kicknote page. After a band plays their set, the footage will be archived on the site for fans to view at their leisure.

Online polls will remain open for 72 hours after a show ends, and these points will be worked into a band’s final score. Anyone is entitled to one online vote per show, but if a user registers with Kicknote and creates a profile, his or her vote will be worth 25 online points instead of one, dramatically boosting their favorite band’s score.

The Battle format is as follows: a 3-round event consisting of 13 shows over the course of 7 weekends, featuring over 50 live acts. Each round will be held at a single given venue; the length of rounds will vary by the number of contestants still competing. The first round will take a total of four weekends, the second round will take two weekends, and the third and final round will take place over the course of a single night; each day of shows will be approximately seven hours long. Bands will receive scores based on a panel of judges at the venue, ticket sales, and online voting. Top bands will advance to the next round. An official schedule of events, prize list, and official rules will be posted on Kicknote.com as the event approaches.
