While the summer weather had a great run into our fall semester, there is no denying that the cold weather has struck Fairfield for good. With seasonal shifts, there are also shifts that need to be made in one’s wardrobe. The rules of fall are easy to follow.

Blazers have become the outerwear of choice this season: Nix the cardigan or boring jacket. Blazers offer a polished look to any outfit, whether it’s skinny jeans and a turtleneck or a dress with tights.

If you don’t know what to do with all of the bright-colored dresses you bought this summer, good news: bright colors are still popular for fall. From turquoise to red or bright green, just pair your bright-colored dress with black tights and black heels – a look that helps you look leaner and taller.

Just when you thought you’d never have to see those bell-bottoms from eighth grade again, guess what: Wide-leg jeans and bell-bottoms are the latest trend in denim.

This doesn’t mean you can’t still wear your favorite pair of skinny jeans, but wide-leg jeans (especially ones with a high waist) are hot and look best sweeping the ground, hiding a pair of platform wedges or heels.

Plaid shirts are no longer just a staple in your boyfriend’s closet: They should become a staple in yours as well. They’ve been seen on celebrity “It” girls, from Lindsay Lohan to Kate Bosworth.

Accessories: While it does not sound practical at all, an oversized clutch for day is the accessory of choice. I would not suggest this for your school day, though; it’s not exactly the easiest way to carry your Intro to Statistics textbook.

Chandelier earrings are popular once again, as well as chunky rings and bracelets. Boots are the most popular fall footwear, from ankle boots to tall flat boots.

Lucky for most Fairfield guys, the preppy look never goes out of style: The whole “preppy collegiate” look is one of the most popular men’s trends right now. Stick to your khakis and collared shirts, and you can’t go wrong.

Another popular trend that has been emerging into men’s fashion is urban street wear. With brands such as Bathing Ape (also known as Bape) and Kid Robot gaining popularity, their brightly colored shirts and sweatshirts have earned a cult following.
