Best? Shanghai Gourmet: 1715 Post Road East, Westport • 256-8188

Real chicken, good beef and fair prices makes Shanghai Gourmet the best place to get Chinese food for Fairfield students. Unlike most Chinese food places the food at Shanghai Gourmet is not extremely greasy. The prices are decent, and it’s worth the trip to Westport or the short wait for delivery. It’s also a great, clean place to go and sit down for dinner. The General Tsao’s chicken and beef with broccoli are both excellent, and they always give a good amount of rice to go along with your meal. While it isn’t as cheap as China Star, the prices are still reasonable for the amount and taste of food you are getting. It’s better to spend a little more for food that actually tastes great and is exactly what you ordered than to take your chances with cheap food from China Star.

Worst? China Star: 222 Post Road, Fairfield • 254-7773

You get exactly what you pay for at China Star. If you are looking for an inexpensive meal and are willing to take your chances on the mystery meat you may receive, then China Star is the place for you. But it takes forever to get your food; half the time what you ask for is not at all what you get. Somehow broccoli translates into zucchini according to the people who work at China Star. The service is usually bad, and the restaurant is not the cleanest place in the world. There are so many other Chinese takeout places in the Fairfield area and all of them are better than China Star. They always give way too much rice and never the right side orders. You want an eggroll? Make sure you say it six times if you really want it. Everything is covered in greasy sauce and it’s hard to tell whether you are eating chicken, shrimp or beef most of the time. It’s worth it to pay a little extra to avoid China Star.
