Fairfield University’s favorite pizza joint was transformed into it’s very own CBGB’s last Friday when it hosted this years first ‘House of Rock’ event.
The kickoff to FUSA’s new Late Night Series started at 10 p.m. with Fairfield’s own, Project Mayhem. Winners of last year’s battle of the bands under their former name Shake n’ Bake, the cover band returned to the Levee this year to bring a 45 minute set of many college student favorites. Their set included songs by Jimmy Eat World, The Ataris, Bon Jovie, Motley Crue, and AC/DC, to name a few. While the quartet had no problem picking out a fan favorite set list, they clearly have a problem deciding on a halfway decent band name. But I digress..
The main attraction of the night was ZO2, a hard rock trio hailing from Brooklyn. The boys from NYC kicked off their set at around 11 p.m., cranking their amps up to eleven and pounding their instruments so loud it could be heard all the way in Bannow.
The band brought a unique sound to the table, with music influenced heavily on ’70s rock, only with modern rock styling sprinkled on top.’ While their music was unfamiliar to almost everybody in attendance, their performance was still top notch, with not one note being off key.
Although many kids scattered out of the joint after the first act, the rest who stuck around for ZO2 were not disappointed. While there was no crowd surfing or mosh pits, the Levee came as close as it can get to becoming a ‘House of Rock’ for the evening. With ZO2 being the kickoff to this year long rock series, the student body should get excited for whatever performers they bring on next.’
