Letter to the editor: Alumnus disgusted by Fairfield U loan scandal

I am a recent graduate of Fairfield University (class of 2005) working in the finance industry. My company has recently become involved in the student lending business due to the recent implosion in the industry. When I say implosion, I refer to scandal, a scandal that unfortunately has involved our school, Fairfield University.

Letter to the Editor: Cleaning up the Confusion Surrounding Spring Weekend

In response to your article last week and the editorial, the members Inter-Residential Housing Association (IRHA) would like to clarify some of the questions or issues that were addressed concerning Spam Jam and May Day. The decision to combine the two events and move them to a central location was made by the members of administration. The Office of Residence Life, Student Activities and Dean of Students made this decision for many reasons. IRHA believes these reasons will be explained by the administration if contacted.

Letter to the Editor: A Note of Thanks From Two Grateful Parents

Feb. 3 marked the first anniversary of the passing of our son Alex while he was a sophomore at Fairfield. As you might imagine, it has been a long and difficult year for us. But it has been made easier by the prayers and support we have received from everybody at Fairfield University, from Fr. Von Arx on down.

Letters to the Editor: Understand Aspirations Before Making (Sweeping) Assumptions

To The Editor: After reading Kate Cota's article Business Students Get the Jobs, Liberal Arts Students Get the Education (1/25/07) it has become apparent that her accusations are entirely misguided. As a student of the Dolan School of Business, I feel it is necessary to enlighten Cota - as she does not believe a business student would ever consider "giving back to the world."

Letters to the Editor: Cota “Blunt,” but Separation Does Exist

To The Editor: Growing up, rarely did people around me speak of big dreams of doing GE's taxes or managing finances. I believe that Ms. Cota (Business Students Get the Jobs, Liberal Arts Students Get the Education 1/25/07), although somewhat blunt, is just alluding to the fact that for the most part, business majors are not in it for the passion or love of the subject, but rather for job and financial security.

Letters to the Editor: DSB Students Not “Taking the Easy Way Out”

To The Editor: I am compelled to respond to the attack that was made last week on the reputation of the Dolan School of Business and education that it provides (Business Students Get the Jobs, Liberal Arts Students Get the Education 1/25/07). The headline alone makes the audacious assertion that while business students find employment with ease upon graduation, they leave the school with an inferior education.

Letter to the Editor: RA’s ‘ DPS do what they gotta do

As an employee of both Public Safety and Residence Life, last week's article comparing officers to the Gestapo and encouraging students to stand up for RAs on a "power trip" just made me laugh. A student forfeits his right to privacy when he violates the law (underage consumption of alcohol) with his curtains wide open on his first-story room located at eye-level of a highly trafficked path on the quad, as in the case referred to in the article.

Letters to the Editor: Rethink the statue, we have Lucas

To the Editor: I understand the interest in having a stag statue built and I think it would be a nice addition to the campus. However, the stag should be second in line. After having recently visited two Jesuit universities, I realized that Fairfield is missing a statue.

Letter to the Editor: Women’s field hockey says goodbye to the crutches

To the Editor: The field hockey team would like to express its disappointment for the distasteful nature of the pictorial representation of our team ("Walk it off" Oct. 12, 2006). The cartoon included a Stag dressed as a severely injured field hockey player next to our team's record and was not a necessary approach to reporting the statistics and news of our team.
